I needed a rugged utility action cam for my daily urban bike commute. Given the logistics of riding in traffic in all kinds of weather conditions, I needed a camera that would be durable and provide competitive video/image quality with the premium priced action cameras.With so many choices I had to aim for a quality product but at a reasonable price point; I was looking for a best case value package that would fit the riding routine. My best case value package criteria was prioritized as follows: price, stabilization, video quality, menu navigation, (need to activate while in motion) and accessories (these can add up).That criteria led me to the AKASO V50X action camera and it has turned out to be the right choice.At the packaged price, it’s easily five stars. The stabilization was at parity with comparative models; the video quality was remarkably crisp and there was no color saturation. Color tone is consistent with comparative models as well.Menu navigation was easy and quickly accessible; the controls well proportioned whether in the housing or out. The ability to access the controls without stopping was a key feature particularly under the duress of poor weather: basic camera functionality like starting and stopping were not a problem even with winter gloves.The package includes attachment accessories that are essential to bike commuters; handlebar and helmet attachments were quickly adapted with no issues. Everything I needed came with the package; no chasing annoying hardware to custom adapt; another value plus.This all came together quickly; the camera the manual; the accessories and functionality; it was up and running in no time. It’s a great camera and package for logging the steady stream of daily commuter biking logistics making it a part of the commute. Great camera; definitely the best case value package for action cams. I have been wanting an action camera for a while but could not justify the cost of a GoPro or similar. I really wanted one for an upcoming backpacking trip and saw this camera was on sale, so I decided to take a risk.So far I have been happy with the purchase. The quality of the camera, images, video have been better than I would expect at this price point. The number and quality of the included accessories are also very good.I have used it to take some underwater images/video of my koi pond and they turned out great. I took it on my backpacking trip where I took some images and a LOT of video.I like that it came with two batteries and while I was initially concerned about the battery life it actually worked well for my 4 day trip (used both batteries and recharged one battery once during the trip).The image stabilization is not prefect but is more than good enough for my needs.I wish the camera would not record the sound of pressing the buttons and/or the beeps it makes, but that is a minor thing that I can edit out later and maybe I should be using the remote more.The operation took a little bit to get used to, but once I did, it quickly became intuitive.I had some trouble with getting audio along with the video but this looks to be an issue with Windows and not the device (works fine with non-Microsoft video players and editors).

I got married this summer and since it was a very small ceremony (Covid) I wanted a second video camera angle so we could send our parents video of the event. I also like the idea of having this for snorkeling, boating, and outdoor use. I've never had a GoPro, Akaso, or similar outdoor mini action cam, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised.The Akaso V50X was remarkably easy to use and came with lots of mounting accessories. I particularly like the rugged waterproof case, which is well-designed. Didn't take me long to get the hang of it. Couple short test videos to understand the settings, frame rate, image stabilization, etc. and I was good to go.Overall I was very happy with the image quality. Only mistake I made was not getting the remote mic for my application - I didn't see that Akaso had that accessory available at the time that I bought it. Audio is fine if you're operating camera close to you, but mine was set up 25' from the outside ceremony, so I wasn't expecting much, if any, audio performance at that distance. i'll be purchasing the accessory mic and report back.Overall I'm very happy with it and would purchase again. I don't think you'll find much better at this price and it's super easy to use. My brother got one to use on his boat and he loves it.
