Philadelphia Candies Fruit and Nut Egg, Milk Chocolate 8 Ounce Gift Box

Excellent is too short for a review but it is the first word that comes to mind. I had come to believe that nothing was made with old fashioned pride in workmanship, but I am happy to say that I was wrong. My little German grandmother was born in the early 1900's and so was taught to be an excellent cook and homemaker. I mention this because she made the most wonderful candies for special occasions including Easter, and this was the most wonderful candy I've had since Easter 1972. I thought the price was a bit high until I tasted the delightful Fruit & Nut Easter Egg, it's actually a bargain.

I was looking for the chocolate fruit and nut Easter egg from my childhood and decided to buy the 4 oz. to try it out. It was so much more delicious than I remembered! Plus, the presentation in the box was so pretty and neat. I will buy the 8 oz. the next time.

The chocolate turned white only hours after being delivered. I researched it and this is "normal" and still ok to eat. However, the inside of this fruit and nut egg had the consistency of bubble gum and ABSOLUTELY no taste. To say that I am disappointed, is an UNDERSTATEMENT! I am glad I didn't order as a gift for someone. How embarrassing!

They definitely cared about my opinion about what I received and the quality of their product. I had another chance to try this egg. This time, my experience was much better and the egg looked exactly like the picture. Overall, I thought that the egg was mild and lightly sweet, with the added texture of fruit, soft nougat, and nuts. The chocolate was much better the second time around and it added the right amount of solidness when eaten with the filling. The filling was much softer and again, the taste was mildly sweet. The nougat is actually not super sweet and the fruit and the nuts really did add a contrast in texture. The flavor was unique depending on which fruit or nut you happen to take a bit of. I was initially pleased with the filling the first time around, just was not happy with the chocolate. I upgraded my review because of overall taste and because the customer service was excellent.*************************I would have to say that I am slightly disappointed in this purchase. I fell prey to the very effective ad that shows off this egg with the delicious-looking filling. I'm a sucker for fruit cake, so when I saw the picture I thought this would be the best of both worlds since I also have a weakness for nougat. It is one large egg and I wasn't surprised about that. I was, however, very disappointed that the egg did not look like the picture. It came slightly melted and leaking on one side- and streaked. It also had some small cracks. I know that doesn't mean the chocolate is bad, but still. This made me think that this wasn't properly stored and definitely hurt the presentation impression. I didn't order it in excessively high heat and it was on my porch for five minutes. I was impatient and didn't want to go through the hassle of returning it, so I ate it anyway. The taste itself is all right but I don't think it was worth the $ that I paid for it. The chocolate was okay, and the nougat was soft and not very sweet, which I prefer. The nuts and fruit did add a bit of texture and minor sweetness. Overall, the taste was very mild and light and that was good. I probably will go next time to order directly from the company.

Perfect Easter fruit and nut eggs.Always delicious.

This is not the quality I was hoping for. It has the citrus peels in it and not enough fruit. I was hoping for something like Redstone fruit and nut eggs, but sadly no comparison.

This was nothing more than a marshmallow egg, with a couple of nuts and cherries inside. The outside chocolate was good, hence the 3 star rating. I was disappointed though... nothing like the Fruit & Nut Egg, loaded with cherries and nuts in a chewy nougat.
