Excellent, inexpensive tool for monitoring temp and humidity in crawlspace, attic....
To reduce expenses and to help protect the environment, in early 2021 our household started taking a number of measures to cut our energy consumption. Those measures have proven successful: total 2021 electricity consumption in our single-family, detached home in the US SE was about 8,000 kWh (3,200 of which was for HVAC), compared to about 11,000 kWh annual average in previous years. [UPDATE on 1/1/23: our total electricity consumption in 2022 dropped even further to just 5,500 kWh (1,600 of which was for HVAC) for the year. We have HALVED our electricity consumption. Huge savings. This sensor continues to operate beautifully.]Our HVAC system screen shows us how much energy it uses daily/monthly/annually. It’s a useful monitoring tool. We use three other tools to help us understand our energy usage and provide us insights into steps we could take to save: a plug-in electricity usage monitor and a thermal imager (both discussed below), as well as our AcuRite weather station with two of these add-on sensors. Our AcuRite set-up allows us to monitor temperature and humidity in four places at once: outside, in our living room, in our crawlspace, and in our unfinished attic. Those four readings cycle on the AcuRite screen every couple of seconds, quickly giving us a full overview of things. Thanks to these readings, we have established a smarter, more energy-efficient way of ventilating our crawlspace and keeping humidity low in there. The readings also helped us see that our attic needed additional ventilation in the roof, prompting us to purchase and install a 4 Seasons Solar Powered Polycarbonate Vent, Weatherproof Design, Quietly Cools Up to 500 Sq Ft, 400 CFM: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DMSCPJAHere are some other products we purchased at Amazon that we can recommend to those interested in cutting home energy consumption:Kuman KW47-US Electricity Usage Monitor Plug Power Watt Voltage Amps Meter with Digital LCD www.amazon.com/Electricity-Monitor-Voltage-Overload-Protection/dp/B07DPJ3RGB Looking back, we can say that purchasing a Usage Monitor Plug has been one of our wisest and most useful moves, and a very inexpensive one at that.Klein Tools TI250 Rechargeable Thermal Imager: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B089QW8R9S This tool, along with the Usage Monitor Plug, gave us a very good picture of where we were wasting energy. No Headache Setup in Home Assistant
5-15-2023:I've owned this sensor for about a month now. Bottom line: I highly recommend it. Makes for a quick temperature and (calculated - you can find various formulas online) dew point sensor within Home Assistant without any need for a proprietary base station (assuming you have an SDR).I'm not sure I could make a DIY T/H sensor myself for a better price given the quality.I put it next to two other sensors from different companies and all three were within 0.2 degF of each other. I have used it outdoors and it tracks the trends as measured by an airport weather station nearby. I generally trust the accuracy. It has so far survived temps as low as 15 degF and as high as 80 degF. So far I don't believe it's gotten wet since I have it underneath an awning in the shade. I'll plan on updating this review as I see how it performs this summer and later through the winter. As I'm sure others have noted, if you do plan to use this in low temperature applications, use lithium batteries. The refresh rate is good for my needs. I'm picking up broadcasts between 15-300 seconds. Which is fairly wide and seems to be dictated by changes in temperature rather than necessarily a regularly timed broadcast. However, that could be due to my SDR not picking it up 100% of the time. Either way, I think this should suit the vast majority of people for indoor or outdoor monitoring.I do plan on buying at least one more as a bathroom temp/humidity sensor with the intention of automating a bathroom fan using humidity readings. If I didn't have ecobee sensors for motion and occupancy, I would probably use these throughout the home at a fraction of the price.Edit - Update on 8/3/2023:Had to replace the batteries for the first time the week. I used fully charged eneloop batteries when first installed. This comes to about 3.5 months for battery life. Just an FYI in case anyone was seeking this information. Also, to update on temperature range, it has now experienced temps of 95F+ and dew points between 20F and 78F (oof).Update - 5/9/2025:I have several of these now. The original one which I have hanging outside under an awning was knocked into the snow by a bird last winter. It stayed there for a month waiting for the snow to melt before I found it. I was STUNNED that it still works. I sat it next to a brand new Acurite just to make sure the sensor wasn't damaged and everything was still within original tolerances. Unreal. Excellent little devices. Batteries last about 4-6 months on average for most of these.Works fantastic with SDR and Home Assistant. Just make sure your SDR antenna is far enough away from the Raspberry Pi or you might get some interference depending on your installation.

Works great and easy to set up.
I purchased a home weather station at a thrift store not knowing that it needed this outdoor sensor to function as designed. The manufacturer provided information on the model required and this was ordered. It arrived fast and after I unpacked it and put in batteries in batteries it linked up w/ the weather station almost immediately and has worked perfectly ever since. I hung it in a tree, in shade and out of the rain and high enough to keep it safe from miscreants. Perfect, highly recommended. Accurite customer service was outstanding!

It works, howeever.....
This was a replacement for the sensor that came with my Accurite when I first purchased it. It works as advertised but I continue to wonder why the original sensor 'gave up the ghost.' The sensor has no moving parts to wear out so why did it fail? The new sensor cost almost 50% for the cost of a completely new unit and that too seems curious, even outrageous. I am disappointed but 50% replacement cost is better than 100%, I guess.

Replace batteries in main unit and remote.
Replacement makes it like brand new. The tip the guy left that said match up the a, b or c was good advice. I did not realize the computer part needs to be replaced also.
