Finally, A Great Introduction to Fabric Design
I have spent a number of years reading about various aspects of design, whether it be ceramic, typographic, or graphic in nature. Quite a number of these books are intended to give an overview of the industry and how to grasp an understanding of how to begin your own exploration. This is one of the few books that I have come across that offers a wealth of information in an easily comprehensible fashion. The author, Kimberly Kight does an exceptional job of helping you understand the following:* The foundations of design and color for fabric* The printing process for both traditional and contemporary methods* The overall applications of fabric design and* (Most importantly) how to go about doing it yourself, by including tutorials and advice from practicing designersI wish more DIY books were like this one. She leaves you with an enthusiasm to begin you're own designs and to share what you've learned. I highly recommend A Field Guide to Fabric Design.

A real support for aspiring fabric designers
I've wanted to design my own fabric for years but no one had ever come out with a comprehensive volume that covered all you needed to know about printing services, working with color and pattern and all the other ins and outs of fabric design in such a well-organized and beautiful book. I found out about this on Spoonflower and I'm so glad I purchased it. i regularly work with texture and color in my work as a polymer clay artist and figured that since I'm already designing patterns and working with color, why not translate them into textiles? With this book, I'll be able to do it. I've made my own clothing since college and now I can create my own fabrics for the ultimate result in my garments.

A very useful book. 5 stars
Even though I have had some professional textile design experience in the past and know how to do hand painted gouache croquis and also repeats. Right now is a great time to 'jump back in the pool' of textile design. This book will give you a good push forward. Included are a great resources section, information about re-licensing and how to develop your brand. The basics of how to design repeats and correct repeats in Illustrator and Photoshop. Tutorials on block printing and screen printing fabrics and a good list with clear photos of commonly printed fabrics (samples of plain white and off white fabrics) printed large enough that you can easily see the weave in each. In addition are also sections in this book on various textile printing methods. It will quickly become the "go to" book on designing fabric in your library.

Good Book About Learning the Basics
This is a good book for someone looking to get started in fabric design. It covers all the basics for both digital design and hand printing. It includes a lot of questions and answers from popular fabric designers. It is well organized and has great pictures. Different types of fabric and dyes are also discussed. I would have liked to have seen more info about approaching fabric manufacturers and how to go about getting your designs licensed. It is a great book for someone who is interested in designing fabric and is just beginning.

FANTASTIC!!!
This is one of the best books I have read in a long time on the subject of fabric design! I have literally been carrying it around with me everywhere I go. The topics discussed are relevant in both todays' world of Digital Textile Printing as well as in the traditional world of fabric manufacture. I recommend this book to anyone looking for either a well-written, concise refresher or for a new designer looking for guidance on how to get started.

Excellent
One of my favourite books on repeat pattern making. The only one with easy and clear illustration on how to make half drop repeat in details as well as square repeat. It is always close to hand when I'm teaching repeat pattern making. The book has well organised, compact, accessible and detailed enough information to be a great help for beginners. The how-to-do half drop repeat by hand is the reason I love it.

Demystify Textile Design
Wow, this book demystifies the world of textile design. What I really love is that the author talks about Spoonflower, which allows artists to use their own designs and order fabrics on demand. Hints about design patterns, goes over the topic of repeats, talks about differences between seeing your designs on a computer screen (nice) and the actual print (ugh). Well written, nice examples, illustrations, how tos. Definitely glad I have this book in my library.

Illuminante e completo

Everything I Need to Know
I am just getting into fabric printing, so this book gives a good basic guide to the considerations, options, and skills I will need to develop. Has a good resource section at the back too.

Comprehensive guide, excellent starting point!
Comprehensive guide for newly entered the field! I specifically was looking for visual concepts and some observations regarding the industry. The book covered all the topics I was looking for and many more.Note for future readers: the industry landscape has changed somehow since 2011, but it remains huge help in understanding and starting point for future explorations. I would highly recommend the book!To the author: I'm so much grateful that someone bothered to describe professional opportunities in the field and how things work in there along with technical information.

Todo lo que estaba buscando
No puedo escribir en espanol. Lo siento mucho. Me alegraria si le gustaria a alguien traducirme.
