Q: Is the pipe thread tapered or straight?

The threads are straight (standard NPT threads). I returned this pump because the head was made of plastic, not stainless steel as shown in the picture. Instead, I purchased this pump: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073P19L8P/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It's a few bucks more, but it works great for pumping hot wort, and it really is stainless steel.

Q: The pump was primed but will not circulate when plugged in what can be the possible problem?

Make sure that the pump is below the outlet valve or you break the vacuum prime.

It's made in China, don't buy it because the pump housing is made of plastic, not stainless steel as advertised.
