The Reading Drummer (Reading: Drums)

This book was suggested in my Berklee drum course. It is great. You learn to read different rhythms through a variety of time signatures. Also, every tenth lesson or so there are duets. Great practice idea. Play your snare with the first line and record yourself with your phone or Ipod, then play the second line on a tom while playing back your recording. Great stuff.It's only fault is there aren't any dynamic markings. The author suggests to put them in yourself. Definitely worth doing if you want your drumming skills to improve even more. Have fun!

I have been teaching with this book for many years now. It is organized and paced very well to bring a beginner drummer to an advanced level of rhythm reading by the end of the book. And every 10 lessons there is a nice snare duet that synthesizes all the concepts from that unit.

This book has been great for rhythm instruction. East to use with good practical application.

Really helpful! I recommend it!

Just another book of boring stick practice. The print is hard to read as well. I would skip this purchase and just get free content online. There are a ton of other similar books that are easy to read and arranged better.

very good learning tool

I have never been able to read drum music well. I picked up the drum by ear and although I can read basic drum music, I have never acquired the skills to read advanced music which has really stunted my musical development. Although "The Reading Drummer" does not make reading drum music easy, it definitely has made the process more logical by breaking down the music to make it more undestandable. There are over 50 lessons in the book and I've only gotten through about 15, but already I can see an improvement in myself. I have been very pleased with this book and I feel that it is an excellent resource for any drummer.

This was not listed as a instructional book for a teacher to give to his student. There are no instructions in book to go along with lessons. Also it's only for the snare drum and not for a 5 piece set.
