Works fine on a 706IIG with a small mod!
I purchased this mic from Radio Research for an Icom706IIG as a replacement for the original Icom HM118TN that was literally falling apart after about a zillion miles of mobile use . The new mic was shipped that day from RR and I received it two days later. That is FAST service. As an Icom owner of several rigs for over 35 years now I pretty much know the ins and outs of Icom mics and knew that some as produced have "low audio output" as reported here by others and I knew the cures and this price for a factory Icom mic was certainly right! This mic functions on a 706IIG just fine with good audio output on HF and VHF/UHF AFTER you disassemble it (7 tiny screws) and REMOVE the rubber plug from inside the mic case that covers the electret mic and reassemble it. Enlarging the tiny hole that feeds audio to the electret also helped. Small effort to pay for a really robust, heavy duty mic that should stand up to years of additional miles of mobile service.Guessing that the plug was installed by Icom as a noise canceling effort since this mic probably fits a large range of commercial mobile and marine radios for different services. It is a no frills mic, no up/down buttons, no DTMF keypad, just an inexpensive (for Icom) mic that functions fine on the 706 models with my very minor "modification".Remember there is a mic gain control in the 706 settings you can easily adjust to fit your particular voice and mic style. You do NOT have to eat this mic for decent output. The coiled cord is long enough to prevent any strain on the RJ45 plug. A cautionary note would be to use some care unplugging the mic since that connector is the now standard RJ45 plug with that small plastic clip which was the first thing to go on the original HM118. (repaired on-the-road with a 3' Cat 5 cord and RJ45 extension from Lowes Hardware lashed to the broken plug with dental floss!)edit! 1/28/18 Best audio reports were on HF. Reports on VHF not as glowing but acceptable. will continue to check and report anything further. Leaving the stars alone for the moment...

Works great ..long cable. Great replacement for my icom 2340. Minus the fact it doesnt have the dtmf pad on it.

The microphone and the very long cord are beastly strong. The weak part is the modular connector. This part will fail first.

Good alternative mic for Icom 706
Reasonable replacement microphone for an Icom 706 series radio. Very basic, no up/down buttons. ( never used them anyway ).
