Jip and Janneke, two kids from Holland

I saw there being 3 editions of Jip and Janneke stories on Amazon. Two of them have less than hundred pages and one definitely only has the drawings of Fiep Westendorp but nót the original stories. Which also may or may not be the case with the second other edition.So I was a bit apprehensive to order this edition, not being very cheap either and bought a (perfect like new) second hand one for £4.How wonderful it is to see that this edition DOES have the original stories and they seem well translated.

As a Dutch grandmother to my British grandson I was thrilled to find this book on Amazon!I used to read this book myself as a child and read it to my own children when they were young.Looking forward to lots of special time with my grandson!

My Dutch niece has just very kindly posted me the Jip and Janneke Two Kids from Holland in hardback as I have had a love affair with these two beautiful sweet characters since I first came across them on a visit to Holland in the 80's.The stories are simple and perfectly written for young children without being patronising and long enough to keep young minds attentive. The artwork as always is wonderful and heartwarming and I only wish that there were more available as even now in my forties the sight of the little black silhouettes make me smile. The story introduces you to Dutch traditions of the St Nicholas celebrations, cycling, gathering tulips from the fields in summer and ice skating on the frozen canals in winterI shall certainly be requesting a further copy to give to my good friend who is due to have her baby very soon.I know that many Dutch children, including my niece and nephew have very fond memories of being read the Jip and Yanneke stories as children and now follow the tradition of introducing them to their own children. I cannot recommend this lovely book highly enough

I am loving this book, but it isn't the original omnibus book written by Annie M G Schmidt. Still lovely drawings and all the seasons explained, but it isn't the original Jip en Janneke book

I have given this book one star as it is listed here incorrectly. It is a collection of Fiep Westendorp's wonderful illustrations with bland additional texts and does not include ANY of Annie Schmidt's wonderful stories. As you can see from the cover, Annie Schmidt is not a contributor.If you only want Jip and Janneke illustrations without the stories, go ahead and buy this book.
