Hardly a Southerner exists who doesn't like black-eyed peas, ham, and braised cabbage on New Year's. However, living in the Northwest, fresh or frozen black-eyed peas are hard to find. (Don't even talk to me about canned peas.) These BE peas are dried, extremely clean, and--did I mention?--five pounds of them will last the whole year. I am a big fan of slow-cooker dried peas and beans. I soaked two cups of these dried peas for eight hours and put them in the crock pot with an envelope of Lipton's dry onion soup, a pinch of thyme, five cups water, two stalks celery cut into 1/2-inch pieces. If you like them spicy, a generous pinch of pepper flakes. Low and slow for about 12 hours. No peeking. These were absolutely delicious. There were no leftovers among my New Year's Day guests.I have bought other Food To Live items (caraway seed, dill seed), and each item is of high-quality. It is very easy to shop Amazon for Food To Live products, and I know that I will be getting what I want without a lot of fuss.

They taste good but I could not find any evidence from the label that they are non-gmo. I therefore have to assume that they are GMO and therefore laced with roundup.

These are great for the price per pound. Not the most beautiful beans I've ever seen, but they're pretty high quality. Can't beat the price per pound though, and now we've got a LOT of beans lying around to cook in the Instant Pot! Thought they were delicious and came out after soaking and pressure cooking very soft and buttery. You should sort through them before you soak, of course, but that's standard operating procedure for me with any bulk food. This brand is really solid most of the time, we get quite a few things from them on Subscribe and Save.

I make a black eyed pea kale tomato soup that is absolutely delicious. These are plump and wonderful. I recommend them.
