Solid workmanship and quality, some annoyances
I purchased this to assist with troubleshooting various SMD and other electronic devices, solely as a hobby. At just about $700 it was this or the latest cellphone. This Amscope microscope won.The shipping box is heavy and extremely well protected. That itself was a good sign versus the other bargain scope that I had puchased from eBay last year (more on that below). Assembly took a good hour as the included guide was just that, a guide. I ended up checking YouTube websites to make sure everything was assembled correctly. There are several components, including a quite solid base, pivot arms, knobs and other adjustments. The microscope itself was pre-assembled, with only the eyepieces needing to be attached.Once assembled, I placed an ESP8266 board under the microscope to check some traces. Here's the first issue: Without a separate light source, the only thing I could see was a single wire that was reflecting some "ambient" light. OK, I expected this from experience and had also purchased an Amscope ring light. Once installed, the components were visible. You absolutely need a separate light source with this scope, as with almost every scope I've ever used. Which brings me to the real issue: Since the light is not integrated, the power cabling for the add-on light tends to interfere with the rough focus knob. and just looks messy. I ended up using some 3M cable tamers to route the cord to be less intrusive. I'll review the ring-light separately but the main improvement I would welcome is a right-angle power cord.As far as operation is concerned, this microscope lives up to all expectations. Even fully extended, the base does not tip (just make sure to orient the base with the logo facing forward. There's an eliptical "safe zone" depending on the amount the scope is extended and the rotation relative to the base, but it's quite forgiving. With all axes adjustable, I was able to position it even in my cramped workspace. If you are in a similar environment, you may consider a desk mountable attachement. They were out of my price range, unfortunately.Field of view is good, but takes some adjustments to get perfect. I have a broad face so am near the far end of the interocular adjustment, but I still had some room to spare. Clarity, brightness and other image considerations were very good through each eyepiece. I tried to take images with a cellphone but they didn't do it justice. There was plenty of room to maneuver a soldering iron and reflow gun which made some of the SMD work a lot easier.Next, I attached an Amscope MU300 camera. This model was adequate for my needs. My issue is, as with the ring light, the integration with this specific scope. The USB cable seems to always be in the way and drags the microscope along when I shift the cable. Also, because the mount doesn't lock into place, you'll often find the camera has rotated away from the eyepiece view.Overall, I am satisfied with this purchase. The price was acceptable, though not a bargain. There are competitor scopes that have similar features for quite a bit less. That said, the premium does seem to go into fit and finish, and packaging. I have issues with the almost necessary add-on components, but those will go into those reviews.

Excellent value, quality where it counts.
These scopes are a very good value. The optical quality is surprisingly good. Amscope was clever, and the things that were sacrificed to make these inexpensive are things that really don't matter. Even the fit and finish, the parts that you see, and interact with, all are just fine. The rough bits are hidden where it doesn't matter at all. Great bang for the buck! You'll need to pay close attention to the picture for how to assemble it, mine didn't come with instructions. If you're mechanically inclined, you'll be able to puzzle it out easily. I also had an issue where the wrong barlow lens was packed with the unit. Amscope's support sent me the proper one without any trouble, so good on 'em for that.

Love it and so do the kids
We paired a ring light with this scope and love it. It has been used for many things from soldering electronics to making sure we got the head of a seed tick (and verifying it was a seed tick). The variable zoom is really nice and the fact you can swing it where you want it quickly or reconfigure it for your task ensures we use it more. Even though it takes a bit of room on a desk, it stays setup in a handy location because of it's usefulness. The kids like to find new things to look at from quartz crystals to plants and bugs. We have not paired a camera with it. It was expensive and takes up a lot of room, but it is amazing how many uses we have found for it.

Nice trinocular microscope, some important pieces not included in this bundle
The only complaints I have for this bundle is it doesn't include a ring light (LED-144B-ZK works on this one) and doesn't include any camera adapters. A camera mount is pretty darn cheap to make so for the cost of this kit they really should be included and at higher magnifications if you don't have a scope-mounted light, you aren't going to see much of anything.Base is nice and sturdy and the microscope itself it functions quite well. They did remember to include a dust cover, which is always nice to see. If you're not planning on using a USB camera or DSLR with this, just go with the binocular head (not trinocular).

Great scope
Nice heavy duty scope but needs the add on light for sure. My package contained the wrong manual and after contacting Amscope they were just going to print a copy of the PDF and send not an original manual. Also the 2 screws that hold in the eye pieces were missing.

A must-have for printed circuit board assembly
Very well packed. Easy setup. No flaws worth mentioning. The optics and associated mechanisms work very well.I tried circuit board assembly without it with difficulty. Since purchasing the scope my accuracy and quality of work has improved dramatically. No surface mount component is too small for me to read its markings. If you get a camera mount, make sure you know whether you will ever want to use the eyepieces simultaneously with the camera because upgrading later will require a new focuser head. I bought the illuminator separately along with the Barlow lens for higher magnification range. I would buy another AmScope product.
