Another great resource by Steve Scott
This is yet another great judo/sambo resource by Steve Scott. As a black-belt judoka myself, I try to snag a good reference book from time to time. This is the 4th book of his I own, & I have yet to find a bad one in the bunch.Scott is a fantastic technician, and his books always include illustrative pictures that demonstrate the technique in question. If you are a practitioner of Judo, Sambo, BJJ, or submission grappling, you will get a lot of use out of this fantastic reference book. I highly recommend it!

Covers most important bases.
Felt like it was more than enough important information that you can take and refine. I was taken back how good this book was. He wrote alot so if you like to read this would be a great book. It's not just pictures he really took his time with the details.

A true encyclopedia of a brutal art
Author Steve Scott has written a veritable tome on the Russian art of sambo. Sambo is a close cousin of judo, but there are significant differences, most of which are explained in detail in this remarkable book. There are hundreds of techniques shown in photographic detail. I'm not done reading it yet, but so far, it has been very rewarding. I do think that it would be hard to grasp many of the techniques without some familiarity with a throwing art such as judo or jujitsu, but a smart novice might be able to decipher many of the skills shown. I have not found any other book on sambo that is so comprehensive. It is an amazing achievement for an author who has already distinguished himself with many other excellent books on martial arts, and the depth and breadth of his knowledge is astonishing.

Great List of techniques
One of the better martial arts books I have. It shows enough pictures of steps in the technique with good written descriptions and a large number of techniques. I haven't done Sambo, but it makes me want to learn. The expertise of the author comes through so it makes a good reference for anyone from beginner to the high level participant.

Important Grappling Knowledge
While it's best to learn such techniques from an instructor, it's important to always know that there is different methods of performing the art. There is no such thing as a perfect technique and there's multiple ways of doing a throw or grab. These techniques are important because if you ever have to use them, then the book can help. Absolutely worth the money to have, as the book is very new and is up to date with implementation of moves.

Great book for your martial arts library
I have no dislikes of this book. It brings a fresh take on grappling outside of Judo and BJJ. I also liked the author's philosophy on the subject.

Not extensive
Not what I expected, if your interested in sambo could be a good book for you ,but for me as I doint train sambo but train judo though I have a great interest in other forms of grappling, I found this book to be over long full of boring sundry techniques, endless texts and variations which ofcourse if you are training sambo and are interested in endless meaningless pointless grappling situations that never come to an end because they have no end they just go on forever with endless variations then this could be the book for you , if you would like a little more condensed substance that comes to the point quicker in being able to win a bout by applying a painful submission (it does have arm locks ) but you will have seen all the most effective ones before in judo , this book just bleeds endless pointless variations , this book disappointingly contains no choking or strangling techniques which are a staple of real combat and self defense sambo , unfortunately this is a book on endlessly pointlessly rolling around on the mat with no end in sight added to that fact that this is not an encyclopedia as the throwing techniques are all backwards so good luck keeping an uninjured back twisting your back backwards repeatedly the hip toss and arm throws and leg trips and sweeps are missing from this fake encyclopedia checkout sambo YouTube channels for dynamic sambo and give this fake encyclopedia a miss,I only wish this boring rubbish could have arrived damaged in someway then I could have sent the dam think back , cost me almost £20 😭 so it's true what they say a fool and there money are soon parted and I was a real fool to have spent my money on this money & time waster 😭

Unique while accessible
I read the introduction, and a helpful Chapter titled Essentials. Well written, the author preserves the uniqueness of the material, without sacrificing it's accessibility. Basically, it's a Russian Style written for English readers. The pictures are detailed, thorough, and step by step. I now know; 1) The definition of sambo 2) It's historical context and 3) An Appreciation of the tremendous athleticism it commands. A must have for any serious martial arts library.
