An important read for the new guys, and seasoned veterans!
This is a copy of an email I sent to Elijah about his book, earlier today.Elijah,I have had your book for a while, but could never find the time to read it.Finally, this past 1 1/2 weeks, while working with a client 24-7, I found time.Excellent read, very informative, and enjoyed the way you broke down the sections.I will be purchasing copies for my guys to read!Continued success in your endeavors!*Further, my speciality is working as a “Solo Practitioner” and I am also a certified security driver (ISDA), and as such know absolutely nothing about working a “Red Carpet” event in Hollywood, which is a little different then working the Red Carpet at the Derby every year, so I learned a lot.Being in this business for as long as I have, it was still a very informative read, and one book I will be giving to my guys to read, learn and make use of the Appendix, which contains a very through and detailed check list which Is one of the best I have seen.Look 👀 king forward to Elijah’s next book!

For those who believe in this work, this is a must read book!
Having earned another degree recently, one of the many things I pride myself on is being a lifelong learner. That said, in 2009 I had the honor of attending one of the very early courses taught by Mr. Shaw and members of his team. Back then there was a booklet provided to the students at the start course and suggested that it be read during the course. I read it, some of it. One of our outings when students became the protective agent or a member of the detail led us to a movie theater, easy right, sit the client and sit near them. Well the next day (you know how those “days” ran) in class, I decided to open the booklet to catch up on some reading, and wouldn’t you know it- there was a section about working the client in a movie theater, and my face DROPPED. Needless to say that I failed my assignment. If I had I only taken more time to read the booklet COVER TO COVER, I would have known where to sit the client and members of the team while at the movies.Unlike some of your professors in college, who can teach you based off of their years of research (and research is important), this book is written by a man whose research comes from decades of hands-on experience. Mr. Shaw left no stone un-turned sharing best practices with all who take the time to read. Whether new to the profession, seasoned in the work, or if you are responsible for hiring men and women to protect a client you have a blueprint of what it should look like and more importantly what it should not look like. While it is hard to require reading for a course that doesn’t extend as long as a college semester, this book, somehow should be required reading for all students who embark on this journey. The great thing about this book is that long after you graduate from the training, you’ll have this invaluable resource at your fingertips to reference you for the rest of your life. If you’ve ever met Mr. Shaw, watched an interview or attended a course then you know that he takes this work very serious, his unwavering commitment to this profession is unparalleled, and his unselfishness to sharing knowledge is what sets him apart from others. Do yourself a favor, don’t do what I did ten years ago in training, start reading the book and then put it down only to realize that had you kept going you would have saved yourself an embarrassment the next day because the answers you didn’t even know you were looking for were on the coming pages.

Edutainment at it's best! A very good and insightful read!
The best way I can describe this book is educational, entertaining (edutainment), insightful, and pretty exhausting. What I mean by exhausting is that the book gives you a very detailed and in depth look of what it really means to be a successful protector in the celebrity feild. Understanding the responsibilities of the celebrity client helps you better understand your role as the protector. As you turn each page, and a new concept was introduced, you start to realize there are more layers to the operational elements of a protective agent than you thought. It takes more than just muscle to be the best. By the time you get to the end of the book, you exhale a bit and say "wow, they do a lot". I enjoyed the way Elijah shared industry insight without complicating the text. Celebrities are interesting creatures and the Entertainment industry as a whole is an interesting ecosystem to be a part of, so to see how each feild interacts with one another speaks again to the insight Elijah shares on how to balance your primary goal with no snafus, whether it's a quick grocery store run, an award show or going out on a world tour. These anecdotes are eye opening and speak to the many layers agents work through and it also makes you applaud those who make it look easy. There is more to what they do than the standard yet stern directives of the "get out there way, make a path, coming through" jargon that we are used too. I enjoyed the added trade secrets of how to get your food in the door especially if you feel your chances are limited because you dont live in a big city. Elijah found ways to offer career advise on entry points as well as some of the pitfalls and challenges of choosing this career path. The book was well done indeed. A good read indeed, thanks Guru Shaw.
