If you are looking for a book to help you get started in fishing the Great Lakes, this is a great place to turn. This book helps you understand how to set up your boat, what lures to use, and how to rig your lines. While it can't replace the knowledge you gain by speaking with the locals, it will help you to understand the terminology that they use when describing how they are catching fish.I read it from cover to cover, then went back through most of the sections several times to reinforce the points before taking to the water. Knowing what to do with each line to get them to the right depth was the key, and understanding what the lures were doing, as a system, helped me find fish.

Good book, good read. Thought it would provide a variety of fishing techniques, depending on the species. Seemed like same thing no matter the fish.

A very basic book primarily on King and Coho fishing. Little information about Lake Trout fishing. All the usual and general information that is readily available elsewhere. This book may be useful to a guy just starting out or if you fish out of a large boat with multiple downriggers, dodgers, dipsy divers and planner boards. Little application for guys with moderate experience and smaller boats with simpler setups. The authors were frustratingly coy about what equipment they actually use so all the experience they tout having is not passed on to the reader. A basic and disappointing read.

This book was a easy read and I found it to be very informative. If you are an "expert" it is probably too basic for you. However, it was perfect for a guy like me who had only fished one season on the big lake before reading it. I will probably purchase his other book.

I will make this review short and sweet. This book, in a nutshell, took all the little bits of knowledge I knew about trolling on the great lakes and organized it for quick reference. It also gave me some information I didn't already have. The thing I liked the most about this book was that it not only tells you what to do, but it gives you the theory behind WHY you do certain things a certain way.

Book has been invaluable. This reminds me to re-read.

I purchased this as a gift to my son. He loves the book and was thrilled to receive it. He has a new boat that is large enough to go out on the big lakes and catch the big ones...now he knows how. He said there was a lot of great information in the book.
