LEATHERMAN, Original Wave Multitool with Scissors and Eyeglass Screwdriver Bit, Black with Leather Sheath

This is my 3rd Leatherman Wave. The first one was a "found" gift from an airlines unclaimed lost-and-found bin (after the passenger realized they couldn't fly with it, of course). It was one of the classic models with a few minor differences in the auxiliary tools. Then I lost it at a job site. Purchased a second, more modern one from a local sporting-good store. Lost that one at a job site a couple years later, too. Now I have this one in black (woo!). The included MOLLE sheath is going to be attached to a new toolbag I'm buying for purposes of getting MOLLE mounts. With luck I won't lose this one.Out of the box, both this model and the stainless-finished model from before were quite difficult to operate. The hinges are quite stiff. They do need a little time to break-in and can be helped along a little with some strategic lubrication - lightweight oil works great but don't use WD40 unless you plan to keep doing it periodically. I usually just dunk the whole thing in, pull it out, work all the moving parts a few times, then thoroughly wipe off any excess.As for tools, it's great. But I would say that, wouldn't I, having owned 3 of them now? The knife stays sharp enough for long enough that I generally only need to have it sharpened about once per year. The pliers aren't spring-loaded, but that's a feature, here. I use the wire cutters often, but they're used to strip Cat5 cable strands prior to installation in a terminal block and, for that, they're excellent.I like the black finish but I have my doubts about the durability of the finish. It probably would have been more durable with a full anodizing or, as some other reviewers suggested, a process used for gun parts. But then I'm not sure how they'd have to adjust their final assembly process to account for the different finish. Based on how easily it appears to rub off, it's probably deposited copper selenium compound. Don't get me wrong - it's not going to affect performance of the tool since the Wave is made of stainless steel underneath, anyway. But if your life depends on not being seen, it could be an issue. I suppose you could have it re-coated at some point, as well, or just use a sharpie pen to fill the gaps and scratches.Seeing as how a matte black finish is a strong selling point to the military, the included sheath is a nylon MOLLE type typically found on military bags, vests, helmets, etc., rather than the traditional leather belt-friendly sheath. I suppose you could wrap it around your belt, but it's kind of missing the point. Mounted to a MOLLE pack, this sheath isn't going to go anywhere.

Tool is well engineered, steel is perfectly hardened so it is not too soft or too brittle, hinges are tight, all tools have locking mechanisms. i highly recommend the Leatherman Wave over other multi-tools (and especially over other brands of multi-tools).Cons:*Can be difficult to close and open IF you forgot to make sure all tools are completely folded into the handle before closing. (the pliers get in the way, and the tool will be very difficult to fold closed, and open later).*The black finish fades to a smokey-charcoal. This is normal on this tool, and normal on every other black knife i own. It isn't a lack of care on Leatherman's fault, its just the best technology has to offer at an affordable price, and the technology isn't perfect. Personally i like the smokey-charcoal color better.*The black finish can be scratched. DUH. diamonds can be scratched, too. Get over it. It's a tool. Don't be one yourself.*Because of the way the blades must be mounted, it is rather easy to pinch your hand between the backs of the knife blades when using the pliers. You'll learn to not press your hand into the side of the pliers when squeezing.I have owned the Leatherman Wave for ~6 months using it many times a day. I still love it and the tool load-out of the wave was perfect for my needs. During hunting season i carry the Leatherman in the side pocket of my SOG Sealpup nylon sheath, otherwise it just sits next to my wallet in my pocket. The steel handles/case don't have sharp edges and so I've not noticed any wear marks in any of my pants (jeans or dress pants). I haven't had to tighten and hinges yet (very surprising given how much i us it), nor have i had to sharpen the blades yet. One thing i do that others might also find handy - i also carry a pocket knife for abusive jobs (i like the Gerber STL 2.0 liner lock pocket knife). The Gerber is a soft blade that doesn't hold a razor edge very long, but the knife is cheap, and sharpening it doesn't take much time. Because of those reasons, i use the Gerber to cut/scrape/pry stuff a knife shouldn't be used for and therefore the Leatherman is always sharp and working well, while the Gerber gets replaced twice a year because it's twisted/ deeply gouged and damaged to a degree such that it cannot be saved. I'm sure the Leatherman would hold up to the damage i put the Gerber through with ease (though my Gerber multi-tool wouldn't hold up to any abuse - snapped two different tools during normal use), but again, if i did twist/ bend a blade on the Leatherman, I'd be pretty mad that i had to replace this rather expensive tool.

Ich habe mir das Wave vor einem knappen Monat gekauft, um mein altes Fuse zu ersetzen, das keine von aussen zugänglichen Klingen und keine Säge etc. hat. In der Zeit seit Erwerb war das Wave mein täglicher Begleiter und hat sich als EDC und im Garten bewähren müssen. Von Nägel ziehen über Säcke mit Erde aufschneiden bis Wasserpumpe fit für den Sommer machen habe ich alle Funktionen mindestens einmal wirklich benutzt und bin mit meinem Kauf insgesamt ganz zufrieden. Lobhudeleien zum Produkt gibt es ja genug, aus meiner Sicht ist kritikwürdig:Die Säge wackelt arretiert minimal. Allerdings nicht seitlich, so dass es nicht stört beim sägen.Die Beschichtung ist recht anfällig. Mit dem Schlitzschraubendreher einmal eine Farbdose aufgehebelt - Beschichtung ab an der Stelle. Der vielzitierte Usedlook, aber eben bitte nicht nach einer Woche.Der Drahtschneider ist gut, aber ganz dünner Draht ist leicht nervig. Wäre da etwas weniger Spalt beim Drahtschneider...Die Zange ist ein wenig schwergängig. Das kann sich noch einspielen und das kann man auch mögen, ist mehr so ein Geschmacksding.Ja, es färbt ab. Ich habe das Wave praktisch in WD40 gebadet und mir einen Wolf poliert, gibt sich aber nach ein paarmal nutzen.Das Holster ist ein Molle-Holster und kann auch quer an den Gürtel. Leider muss ich es für meinen recht breiten Gürtel teilweise ausschlaufen, so dass es recht viel Spiel hat. Jetzt ist es am Molle-Rucksack und alles ist gut, aber man kanns ja in der Produktbeschreibung ruhig mal erwähnen.Die Wellenschliffklinge ist nur einseitig angeschliffen, also ein chisel grind. Auch nicht dramatisch, könnte man aber auch mal dazu schreiben. Sie schneidet aber top und das zählt.Nichtsdestotrotz überwiegen die positiven Dinge. Stabil, Klingen scharf und praktisch, witziges Lanyardhole zum Rausschieben, prima Bithalter, Holster qualitativ okay, selbst die Säge taugt was und die Schere ist immer noch das super Teil, in das ich mich schon beim Fuse verliebt habe.Also das Fazit ist: ein tolles Tool ist es auf jeden Fall. Sieht cool aus und hat sich als sehr praktisch erwiesen. Circa 90 Euro sind allerdings eine Ansage, 70 hätten es auch getan. Und es ist eben trotz seines Umfangs recht schlicht und schnörkellos. Wer was fürs Herz will, alberne Aufreißhaken und Titangriffschalen und so Zeug, der sollte sich ein anderes Modell zulegen und muss dann aber noch tiefer in die Tasche greifen.

je l'utilise dès que je vais camper, ou que je suis sur un chantier. L'avoir dans la poche, ça dépanne tellement. Les outils sont de bonne qualité, solide, rien à redire.

Das Leatherman Wave ist ein schönes Multitool, dass ich in den letzten Jahren sehr oft und gerne ausschließlich beruflich benutzt habe. Leider ging mein Altes vor Kurzem auf einer Produktion verloren, sodass schnell Ersatz her musste. Die schwarze Ausführung war etwas günstiger und wurde zudem mit dem Molle-Holster geliefert, entsprechend habe ich direkt zugeschlagen.Bei Erhalt des Multitools dann die Ernüchterung: Es ist schwarz! Okay, ich habe ja auch ein schwarzes Tool bestellt. Problem hierbei ist nur: Ich arbeite als Tontechniker bei Liveübertragungen fürs Fernsehen, soll heißen: Meine 19"-Racks stehen zumeinst in einer dunklen Ecke und sind im Regelfall schwarz - genauso wie alle Kabel, Antennen, Zusatzcases, Gaffatapes... was ist also, wenn ich während der Produktion mal wieder nen Case zerlegen muss oder ein klemmendes Antennenstativ zu lösen habe... und das Multitool kurz ablege, um beide Hände frei zu haben? Richtig: Danach beginnt das große Suchen! Gleiches habe ich schon mit diversen Taschenlampen gehabt, wobei Diese den Vorteil haben, dass sie leuchten, solange man sie nicht ausschaltet. ;)Lange Rede, kurzer Sinn: Das Wave ist super, die Farbe mal was Anderes - für mich aber gänzlich ungeeignet, da ich keine Lust habe, danach zu suchen, wenn ich Stress habe.Kurz zum Molle-Holster: Es funktioniert, wie es soll, trägt aber ziemlich auf. Mein altes Lederholster hingegen verschwindet unter jedem T-Shirt. Vorteil des Molle hingegen ist es, dass man es auch an breiteren Arbeitsgürteln tragen kann - Diese wiederum kommen bei mir aber nur zum Einsatz, wenns schmutzig wird. Bei normalen Produktionen trage ich dunkle Jeans mit normalen Gürteln, bei denen das Holster schonmal im Weg sein kann. Das ist aber nur eine Frage des Geschmacks und der bisherigen Gewohnheiten. Somit keinen Stern Abzug.Noch kurz am Rande: Mein altes silbernes Wave sah immer wie neu aus. Das schwarze Wave hingegen wirkte "out-of-the-box" aber schon ziemlich used. Auch das muss man mögen, wobei ich es aufgrund diversester Rezensionen schon im Vorfeld wusste. Somit ebenfalls keinen Stern Abzug.

Il est bien ce couteau mais le souci c'est son poids il est très lourd et on dirait que plusieurs choses peuvent se casser je préférais le OTH car le système de la pince c'est très intéressant

...wobei hatte der eigentlich traurige Ausdruck dafür ist das es nun mehr oder weniger nur noch in der Schublade bleibt.Leider sieht der Gesetzgeber mit §42a die Sache so das selbst diese Sorte Multitools, mit einhändig zu öffnenden und festellenden Klinge als Einhandmesser zählt.Nun habe ich im Netz recherchiert, Polizeibeamte im Freundeskreis befragt. Mit dem Leatherman Support geschrieben und die hier zuständige Kreisverwaltung angefragt. Überalll kam heraus das man das Waffengesetz so auslegen (das man das Tool führen darf und kann) kann aber nicht muss. Hätte man einen sachlichen Zweck es bei sich zu führen würde dies ausreichen, da dies aber der Beamte vor Ort entscheidet ist mir das zu schwammig. Zu schnell hat man da Ärger am Hals den man gar nicht will oder verstehen mag. Also wandert das Tool in die Schublade und wird nur noch zu Hause benutzt. Deshalb den einen Stern Abzug von fünf.Leider, den das Tool an sich ist hervorragend bei allen Arbeiten die ich ihm bisher zugemutet habe gewesen und ich war/bin sehr zufrieden damit. Einzig allein diese Waffengesetzsache ist ärgerlich. Will man keinen Ärger lässt man das Ding besser daheim und hofft darauf das der Gesetzgeber und der Hersteller da endlich eine brauchbare Lösung für den Verbraucher finden. Wer einen berechtigten Zweck hat so ein Tool zu führen kann bei dem Wave getrost zuschlagen.
