Good book. Clear directions on learning Applique

Hard backed with pages that will fold out flat for easy reading and reference . H. Hargrave has covered a wide spectrum of different techniques to produce true applique using the typical home sewing machine. Note that these techniques are to sew cut fabric pieces substituting the machine stitching for traditional hand stitching as opposed to gluing or bonding pieces together. Contains a wealth of information an reference material. Well thought-out instructions with lots of detailed photographs and diagrams. This is a techniques book and thankfully not full of the authors on quilts being displayed. It does contain full sized patterns and assembly instructions to get you started. Emphsis is on learning how to do it your self - where the real JOY is. Good Luck and enjoy. DK.

This book was purchased for preparation to take a class by the author. Wow, was I thrilled. I have already read the book cover to cover several times and gain new information each time I pick it up. With the detailed instruction and pictures, I think I could master applique without taking the upcoming class. There is so much information in this book, unlike some that I have bought that are full of "tip" boxes and large pictures, but very little substance. Great purchase. Harriet goes into excellent detail about adjusting and setting up the sewing machine for applique, explains how to select and use necessary supplies, and provides clear, detailed instructions and step by step photos for a variety of styles of machine applique.Harriet fills in the missing blanks left in many other resources and goes beyond the basics, while being clear enough for a beginner to use. I highly recommend this book.

This is the third book of Harriet Hargrave's that I've bought. As with her other books, is book is loaded with lots of detail about tread, needles, and practical advice. She also covers lots of ways to do machine appilque. The photos are a real help also. Great book - a must have if you want to learn how to do machine applicque.

Recommended but did not realise it was American. Good advice, clear instructions but terminology causes confusion at times. Sister has spent time sorting terminology and enjoyed some of the exercises in the book. Has given her confidence to try her own designs and patterns. She would recommend the book to anyone new to machine appliqué.
