This is a set of 5 well built blacksmithing tools specifically designed for making knives from hot metal. It contains long-handled pinchers and other tools to hold the knife firmly as you form it.The tools are easy to use and have great functionality. There is a learning curve when using tools with this long of handles, but the length is ample enough to protect the hands from the heat of your project.I have been experimenting with these tools as I get better at smithing and I find them to be easy to use and reliable. I haven't dropped anything yet!Overall this is a great set for beginners or experts alike. Everything is strong, durable and very useful in metal working.

When I first saw the images of these tongs, I thought for sure I was going to have to spend the first day in the shop drawing out the handles as they looked fairly beefy and heavy. Once they arrived I was pleasantly surprised to see they were actually smaller than they looked.They seems to be nicely made and function smoothly. I did have one pair of the V-bit tongs with misaligned jaws that had to be adjusted, but that only took a few taps with a hammer on the anvil to sort out.Generally one would want to make their own tongs for practicing various techniques but sometimes one needs a visual reference to understand where and how to make some of the facets on a chunk of steel. I’m not afraid to admit that my first 2 pairs of tongs didn’t turn out so hot either, but they worked and my skills improved over time. So if you’re just getting started in blacksmithing and are having troubles with your first few sets of tongs, this may be the thing you need as a reference guide. Once you understand the facets, you’re next set of tongs will be a breeze. And there is still plenty of meat on the handles for drawing out practice and customizing then to fit your hands.Whether you’re a skilled smith or just starting out, this set just may fill a niche that has yet to be touched upon.

I am just starting to learn blacksmithing. And it is quite challenging. One of the things I am working on is the creation of useful tongs... but I wasn't sure what tongs I would find most useful. So having these to practice with and reference has been an excellent training tool. And they are sturdy and good tools in their own right.

These blacksmith tongs are of decent quality and build. They’re made with quality steel and the rivets are solid. I like how I can use them just the same as the other tongs I have and I didn’t have to adjust them or tweak them to make them better. I particularly like The variety of tongues that came in this kit. This was a good value for my money.

I am assembling a metal working shop with a propane forge, anvil, etc. but I am new to blacksmithing.These all seem like really good starter tools for someone like me who wants to get started but doesn't have opportunities to take classes or apprentice.If you have access to a teacher, a forge, anvil, hammers, etc. I'm sure you could build all of these, better. And if you have that, you should, for practice. But if you don't? Bootstrapping is already challenge. Getting some functional tools to get you going is a huge step forward. And if your goal is to make knives, you may not need the tools that would be used to make tongs.So, if you are an aspiring blacksmith getting started, or are buying a gift for an aspiring blacksmith, I think this is a really nice set of tongs. This specific set has tongs optimized for holding flat bar stock used in knifemaking, but most of the tongs are multipurpose. They are a step above the temporary tongs you see people making when they are trying to make a first set of proper blacksmiths tongs, but they are not as nice as what blacksmiths usually make for themselves as they are learning to work metal.These are heavy duty, simply made, rugged tools. They feel very similar to the working blacksmith tongs I have had a chance to handle, though they aren't quite as fancy.

This is a great starter set for black smith tools. I do wish there was a set with some of the other tools you can acquire as part of different sets, but this set is a wonderful set to start with.
