The best chuck you never knew you needed.....
I have done a zillion strange things to grab hold of work pieces on my small wood lathe, often making holding fixtures from wood, or trying to make other chucks do things they were not designed to do since I couldn't swallow the price of auto-centering chucks. I finally decided to bite the bullet and bought this one (for not much money honestly) with only one regret - why the heck did I wait so long! The chuck is pretty impressive - the jaws seem to be fairly square and run true to center. It is also pretty compact, dispensing with a geared scroll (the larger more expensive ones I remember) instead working by rotating the face of the chuck relative to the mount to actuate the jaws. This takes a bit of getting used to, but it works very well. It probably doesn't have the precision of higher end chucks, but so far, even working metal pieces it seems to run true to about 0.005" or better, which is pretty impressive for a chuck at this price.Overall, I'm very happy with the chuck and have found many uses I hadn't anticipated, for example holding stock or workpieces to do hand operations on them (see photo - hand tapping a small piece). If I had it to do over again, I would have added this chuck to my set up much much sooner!

Works fine. How to align jaws.
The media could not be loaded. This worked fine out of the box but when I went to reverse the jaws I couldn’t get them to line up. The numbers are stamped wrong. Here is how you figure it out. I bet this applies to most of the Chinese ones. Good luck line up the threads in the back of the jaws like I did and number them. Write it down somewhere so you can do it againw

Good value for the price
I had hoped to get something a little less ‘fiddly’ when trying to balance a project on our lathe. Getting something perfectly centered is quite a challenge with this as the threads are a bit sloppy and it finds its way out of adjustment frequently. The thing to focus on here is what you pay. It’s a cheap wood lathe chuck and that’s exactly what you get. It works but takes time to keep it working properly.

ZERO
This looks like a precision tool but is far from it. I just wasted 2 1/2 hours and two pieces of wood trying to get this to work. The jaws will not come together at the same distance from the center axis no matter what I do so of course the workpiece wobbles like a drunken sailor. I had a perfectly circular piece of wood at 2 3/4 inches in diameter. It was too large for the jaws in one direction and too small for the jaws in the other direction. Besides, it wouldn't center the workpiece anyway. DO NOT BUY.
