Works as expected!
Delivered as expected with the correct US battery charger and internal battery. Turned it on and heard W1AW code practice from Texas on 20m, and the internal CW decoder was working. Sent a couple of CQs using the keyer and saw reception on 20m in Toronto and Miami on RBN with about 4 watts out. Receiver seems to work well, low noise floor. Hearing WWV strong on 10 and 15 MHz, as well as a loud FT8 on 20m. Using an Alpha loop indoors as an antenna.Sure, it is not an Elecraft or IC-705 but it works! Worth the money. Recommended. Needs more work to be viable
I wanted to give one of these QRP rigs a try, and since *most* of the reviews were good I figured it might be a good product. And it is -- up to a point. First, these are great alternatives to the mainstream HF radios that can cost hundreds or even thousands, and appear to have pretty much all the same functions. True, these do have much lower power levels, but many amateur operators try to work distant stations with the lowest power possible, so there's that. I tried this one out and it is being returned. The cons: 1. No Instructions. Although the unit is somewhat intuitive, some of the functions leave you guessing whether they are working or not, or what the readings actually are. 2. Noisy -- and really no way to fine-tune the incoming signals very much. This results in unusable reception unless the signal is really strong (which kind of negates the QRP basis for the thing). 3. This radio is VERY picky about the type of antenna connected to it. I tried five different antennas (two dipoles, a discone, a scanner antenna, and just a long wire just for reception) -- and only one of them worked even marginally. Overall I think these QRP units need further refinement before an amateur operator would depend on them even for occasional use. On the plus side, they are well-built, not cheap or junky in the least, so they should become more mainstream in the future.

Item is not bad...the packaging sucks
I've been a ham for 20 plus years. I heard the stories about this and other similar types. But I was curious so I bought of of this type. I have to say it seemed like a well build radio. The case is metal, fits together very well, it is heavy because of the built in battery ( which is why I selected this type). Its not a bad concept. It powered up right away. I had an S3 noise floor which I have seen is common with these. The problem I had was that the rotary encoder ( the knob) seemed loose and wiggled more than i thought it should. When it wiggled it caused static in the receive audio much like if it has been 20 years old and needed some deoxit. The unit comes in a thin bubble wrap pouch inside of a very flimsy cardboard box, like the type that parts are packed in, inside of another box. Nothing protects the knob. Mainstream rigs are well packed and some hace cardboard rings to protect the encoders or VFO's. I suspect many of the problems with these are caused by the very poor packaging.

Excellent construction
Dislike lack of any documentation. You are on your one.

It Does Not Work As Advertised
It's (almost) total crap out of the box. Zero documentation except what you can find online. You are on your own, and be careful what advice you're given online. Some of it will blow your radio.Menu button doesn't always work. Tune Rate will sometimes reset itself to 1k. The firmware is buggy, so it can test your patience. Keep your button presses fast or everything gets goofy. Volume above 11 will make everything sound distorted.Important menu settings if you want to be heard - Filter BW to FULL. RIT to OFF. AGC to FAST. NR to 0. ATT to 0dB. ATT2 to 0. Practice to OFF. Noise Gate to 0. TX Drive to 1. PA Bias Min to 10. PA Bias max to 170. And it still sucksI did make SSB contact with an operator in Wisconsin (from Houston) on 20 meters. Last night had a VERY short QSO via relay with an operator in Panama. Using a JPC-12 portable antenna, I have made multiple 1,000-miles or more contacts on better 5-watt radios. It does work, I'll give it that. But it is quirky.Microphone doesn't work (you'll need to switch the green and white wires in the mic because it's wired wrong for this unit - see YouTube - you have to take apart the mic and fix what they broke) Sent with 3.01 firmware, you'll need a solder gun to upgrade to the 4.0 version. In other words - nothing about this works as advertised. Nothing. This is my 4th rewrite of my review - my first 3 were even less than desirable than this one. The total lack of documentation and faulty microphone keep me giving it 1 star.Less than 1/3 of a watt on 10 meters. Total junk.Menu freezes. Buttons do random operations. This is crap. Do not buy. Returned. Save your money.

Good buy
Works well, lots of features, and a sturdy case. Came with the wrong size plug on the 110/battery charger cord.

Better than I'd hoped
I like this little devil. I got it for traveling but have only used it to monitor 40 meters in a hotel room at a family reunion, so far. I have a small Bluetooth speaker that I use with it, and the sound is much better for me that way. Simple to operate, after a little bit you can change modes and bands almost without thinking. I got pretty decent reception especially with the little 40 meter extendable antenna I had cobbled onto it. I think it's a great starter radio for a General, or maybe as a pretty, to entice a Tech to take the next step.

Does not have a color screen
Made my first contact SSb with California got 5-4 signal report then the bands shifted. all and all it is a good little radio, made the contact with it where my KX2 didn't. So there is that.
