Using for Guinea Pig care
I use these trays as litter boxes for my guinea pigs (GPs). I wanted to use food-grade boxes to ensure the cardboard was not sprayed/treated with toxic materials as GPs naturally chew on things, including wood and cardboard. GPs need clean cages to be happy and healthy. I put Carefresh and aspen chips in these boxes and change them out every 2-3 days. I put them in front of their food bowls and water bottle, as GPs tend to do most of their bathroom business while eating/drinking. As a result, they deposit most of their waste in these vs the rest of the cage, allowing me to do an entire cage clean out every week vs. 2-3x's a week. The boxes are pretty sturdy and hold up well - when used for a few days they retain the damp litter material without getting the fleece underneath them wet. They do have some kind of coating on them, I would guess to keep them from leaking food spills onto humans. I am assuming it's non-toxic since these are designed to hold food, but I do wish the product materials were listed in the description - but so far my GPs show no sign of effects from chewing on them.
