Disappointed in this product. I removed the old part and installed these supports but the clips would not hold them in place. I thought one may have been bad but northerlies one had good clips. I ended up putting the clips from the original bmw lift support and they made it work. They do hold the hood up so I gave the second star.

These will not work on bmw e36 the clips are the wrong ones there is just no way to bolt these on. You are better off going to an autozone and getting them there. Waste of time and money.
