The Fragile: Deviations 1

I didn't think The Fragile could get any better until....
Just an astounding release all around. So good to see more stuff come out from The Fragile orbit. The album is a masterpiece to begin with, and Deviations 1 (dare I think this insinuates there will be a Deviations 2??) just gives it a fresh face and new perspective that allows you to fall in love all over again. Beautiful album cover and a high quality pressing. So much depth and warmth in the in the sound, the mastering couldn't be better. If you are a NIN fan, you will love it. If The Fragile rates high on your list of favorite albums, don't hate yourself later when its out of stock, love yourself now while its readily available. If you are a collector of Halos (this one being Halo 30), its a no-brainer. Even if you don't own a turntable, it just fills you with joy and pride to own it, and worth the price for the digital download. Speaking of the download, you get your choice of file format (including lossless) if you purchase from nin.com, otherwise it comes with a download card for MP3 files. If there are any problems with your download, just reach out to company (nin.com or the contact info on the download card) and they will make it right. They were really good about that and gave me no hassle with my download even though the code had expired.I could just go on and on here, but do I have to, really? If you are here reading reviews, you are probably sold already and just looking to see what little details and info you can garner about packaging, track listing, and nature of the tracks themselves. So, here you go:Four black 180 gram LPs (but you already knew that didn't you?) in white paper polylined dust sleeves with center cuts. The record label is a picture only, no LP number, side designation, or track listing. The art on the record label needs to be cross referenced with the liner notes to determine LP number, side, and tracks contained on that side. The liner notes are contained on a single slip of high gloss paper printed on one side only. Liner notes contain track listing only (there are no vocals on this entire album). The album cover is a large gatefold with 2 LPs per side.Regarding the tracks themselves, all tracks were created during the original Fragile sessions from 1997 to 1999 and were compiled and arranged in 2017 by Reznor/Ross for this release. If the track is listed as "instrumental" it is the original song stripped of the vocals. Tracks listed as "alternate versions" are alternate instrumental versions of a track on the original album. There are also tracks here and there on the album that I can't quite place but seem to be unreleased material from The Fragile sessions. Many of the tracks on here were available on Apple music's 2015 instrumental release of The Fragile, but there's also a lot here that you couldn't get with the Apple release. This is a limited release as stated on the NIN's website, "One time pressing, when its gone, its gone" and then the insane markups will ensue from third party sellers. Furthermore, quoting Trent Reznor on the subject, "The Fragile: Deviations 1 will not be available on any digital services and only available in this format while this limited run lasts."Here's the tracklisting:Side 1A1 "Somewhat Damaged" (Instrumental) - 4:532 "The Day The World Went Away" (Instrumental) - 5:293 "The Frail" (Alternate Version) - 1:464 "The Wretched" (Instrumental) - 6:00Side 1B1 "Missing Places" - 1:262 "We're In This Together" (Instrumental) - 6:503 "The Fragile" (Instrumental) - 4:484 "Just Like You Imagined" (Alternate Version) - 3:465 "The March" (Instrumental) - 3:42Side 2A1 "Even Deeper" (Instrumental) - 6:192 "Pilgrimage" (Alternate Version) - 3:043 "One Way To Get There" - 2:444 "No, You Don't" (Instrumental) - 3:165 "Taken" - 3:35Side 2B1 "La Mer" (Alternate Version) - 4:542 "The Great Below" (Instrumental) - 5:253 "Not What It Seems Like" (Instrumental) - 3:304 "White Mask" - 3:225 "The New Flesh" (Instrumental) - 3:40Side 3A1 "The Way Out Is Through" (Alternate Version) - 4:262 "Into The Void" (Instrumental) - 4:443 "Where Is Everybody?" (Instrumental) - 4:554 "The Mark Has Been Made" (Alternate Version) - 4:45Side 3B1 "Was It Worth It?" (Instrumental) - 5:032 "Please" (Instrumental) - 3:303 "+Appendage" (Instrumental) - 3:194 "Can I Stay Here?" (Instrumental) - 4:255 "10 Miles High" (Instrumental) - 5:16Side 4A1 "Feeders" - 2:022 "Starfuckers, Inc." (Instrumental) - 5:333 "Complication" (Alternate Version) - 2:554 "Claustrophobia Machine (Raw)" - 2:395 "Last Heard From" - 2:06Side 4B1 "I'm Looking Forward To Joining You, Finally" (Instrumental) - 4:172 "The Big Come Down" (Instrumental) - 4:053 "Underneath It All" (Instrumental) - 3:214 "Ripe (With Decay)" (Instrumental) - 7:35

Took a risk with used but very happy - great listen for fans of instrumentals
First i'll say I got this 4 LP vinyl record set used from Amazon... was a risk, but it did say it was in very good condition. I got lucky I suppose because it is indeed in very good condition. The records are perfect, and are cleaner than brand new records typically are so whomever had it before me took good care of it. The rest of it is in very good condition though not perfect - and someone put a barcode sticker right on the front cover which is quite annoying. Otherwise I'm very happy with my used purchase and saved about $15 for an album I wasn't really sure I was going to like.So far i've only listed once but I've been a long time fan of the original The Fragile album so this feels right at home. Basically all the tracks with vocals, don't have vocals now. So you can sing along yourself or just take in the instruments where you couldn't focus on them as much with the vocals. The tracks that were already instrumental from the original now contain a few interesting twists but are otherwise the same 'song'. There are a few extra tracks too that were not on the original, some are kinda fun and a few don't really sound like NIN to me - but it's my first listen.Overall still an enjoyable listen if you just want to zone out and listen to the raw sound of NIN. May also be good 'studying' or 'working' music as there are no vocals to distract you. Take it how you will, you either like it or you don't. I suggest trying to listen to some of the album on YT or something before committing to a purchase but if you're a NIN fan and collector of Trent's music then it's a must really.

Very happy with the product and the seller
Product came early, which was a great surprise. It’s a rare vinyl that I never knew existed, despite being a lifelong NIN fan.Album came exactly as promised and in perfect condition.Seller also provided cool stickers and a promo code for a future order. I highly recommend this seller and will definitely order from in the future when I’m looking for rare vinyl records.

NOT The Fragile, but amazing nonetheless
I've been a fan of Nine Inch Nails for as long as I can remember, since the 90's. One of my all-time favorite albums is The Fragile.I was super-psyched to come across this little gem on amazon, thinking it was indeed The Fragile. It is not. Let me just throw that out there first for any impatient shoppers like myself. It's mostly instrumentals, and a few alternate versions of tracks *from* The Fragile. Not much vocals. That being said, I gave it a listen anyway, and I fell in love. It's beautiful, flawless sounding music which really gives you the opportunity to truly appreciate all that madness happening in the background of Trent Reznor's art, often hidden behind the vocals. The vinyls themselves are insane high quality. I know they're 180's, but I swear they feel heavy enough to be steel. They turn clean and true, and when you crank it up, the proof is in the pudding. Literally flawless.

A must-have companion album if you like The Fragile.
As the title states, a must-have for any NiN fan who likes The Fragile from 1999.

One of my favorites now.
Love the physical art you get with this. Love all the songs plus the "new" ones. Highly recommended because they won't last forever. Also came with a HD (flac or wma) digital copy for my phone. Anyone purchasing this is obviously a NIN fan and will not be disappointed!

Great record, packaged well.
From online reading, I knew the "extras" were minimal (just one square page of info), but it suits the (wordless) music. The 4 LPs sound great and the wide gatefold cover gives them enough room.

Prefer it over the Fragile Album
This 4LP edition is basically the Fragile without the vocals, and slightly remixed. The discs are beautiful, and the packaging is somewhat minimalist (compared to the recent reissues that came with a nice 4 page newsletter like booklet). I don't spin the Fragile that often. It's an album that I like but I never could get lost in like many others can. This album, however, is something I need to listen to on a weekly basis. Just stunning!
